The body is a vessel through which we navigate the world. My artistic investigations -which span curatorial projects, art writing, collaborations, community engagement, events coordination and panel moderation – are all driven by this core principle, in Thinking Flesh. Steered by feminist phenomenology and critical queer and anti-racist theory, I work with communities on the margins of society: artists of colour, gender non-conforming people and dissident voices, to problematise the social construct and systemic violence of the gender binary, of heteronormativity and whiteness. For our everyday experiences cannot be detached from our bodies: as sites of tension, affect and sensation, they can also be dissident and transformative for those on the margins of society, offering new and imaginative ways of being-in-the-world, and working towards a more tolerant and representative society.
